The Refugee Data Portal is the authoritative source of open data on refugees, stateless people and others affected by forced displacement.
The Portal brings together official population statistics, protection data and socioeconomic data in one place. It helps users find, understand and use data on forced displacement and statelessness.
Data come from a range of trusted sources, including administrative systems, surveys, censuses and registries. All data are published using a common data structure and are accompanied by metadata that explains definitions, sources and other information needed to support appropriate interpretation and use.
The Portal is expanding on and replacing UNHCR's Refugee Data Finder. It is complementary to other open data platforms hosted by UNHCR, including the Microdata Library which provides access to anonymized survey-based microdata for research and analysis.
On the portal, you can:
- Explore: Browse and filter population, protection and socioeconomic data by year, population type and other dimensions.
- Connect: Pull data and accompanying metadata (data sources, methods and definitions) into your own tools through the open API or download.
- Compare: Built on the SDMX standard, line data up against other datasets.
We encourage you to use the data and share your work, citing the source (which you will find along with every data point).
The first release of the Refugee Data Portal in October 2026 includes access to key data and resources. New content and features are being developed, and will be added regularly.
